Our very own Junior Editor Jake Schenberg (author of Alternative Elections: 1844,  editor of the Alternate History Inquirer blog and host of the Alternate History Podcast) has been chosen as the newest moderator of the subreddit /r/AltHistory.

For those who don't know, /r/AltHistory is one of reddit's hub for discussing alternate history. According to Jake "[W]e are open to traditional what-if discussions, [but] we do not limit ourselves to our own speculation. /r/AltHistory is the place to discuss published works of alternate history, be they timelines, novels, podcasts, video games, or whatever else. We encourage writers, bloggers, and artists to share their work here so long as they are willing to be constructively criticized. We value open and honest discussion and we love alternate history!"

I look forward to seeing how /r/AltHistory develops under Jake's leadership. To help him out, I am going to be posting most of The Update's content over there, so I highly encourage our reddit fans to check it out.

In the meantime if you are looking for other alternate history haunts on reddit, there are several communities you can subscribe to. The largest and most active is /r/HistoricalWhatIf, but it is limited solely to discussion, no links to outside sources. Other communities include the seemingly defunct /r/RomeSweetRome and our very own /r/ahwupdate, which in all honesty I should be doing more to promote.

Those looking for subreddits on related genres can check out the ones for steampunk, dieselpunk and time travel. You also might be interested in /r/MapPorn, which has some amazing maps and includes active map makers of AH.com. Paradox also has a subreddit for fans of their grand strategy games.

The front page of the Internet has a niche for us alternate historians. Don't limit yourself to the forums and Facebook, try a whole new battleground for speculation on the past!
